On the eve of the hillula of Rabbi Avraham Dov of Avritch, author of Bat Ayin, a family opened their home for a meal and study of the tzaddik's teachings. Family and guests sat together around the table in an atmosphere of spiritual encouragement and hospitality.
A Moment of Fear
During the evening, their young daughter entered the kitchen and picked up a sharp knife. An accidental movement injured her near the eye. Alarmed by the heavy bleeding, her parents immediately left the meal and rushed her to the hospital, fearing for her eye and vision.
According to the family's testimony, after examining her, the doctor explained that the injury had been very close to the eye, but the knife had not entered the pupil and her vision remained unharmed.
From a Meal to Thanksgiving
The family saw the outcome as a great deliverance and special providence, connecting it with the hillula meal and the study of Bat Ayin held that evening. The meal took on an additional meaning: gratitude that the frightening event had ended safely.
